Maple Bacon Cupcakes

The experiment:

I've been intrigued by the idea of bacon in desserts for a while now. I keep planning to pick up a Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookie or a Maple Bacon Cupcake. Never having gotten around to it, this last weekend I decided to try my hand at making Maple Bacon Cupcakes.

The results:

The cupcakes looked kitschy; but they had an overwhelming baking soda flavor and the icing was mediocre. I'm not a good enough baker to tweak the recipe, but I'd recommend reducing the amount of baking soda. I would also replace the frosting recipe with a different maple butter cream recipe.


Conclusion:


We all know bacon desserts are a novelty. Although, the chances of me remaking this recipe with my suggested alterations are slim to none, I did have fun trying it once.

Summer Plans

This lovely weather has me looking forward to lounging on the beach and listening to side b of COWBOY SONGS/SURFER ROCK INSTRUMENTALS.

I want to ride my bicycle

I'm in the process of becoming a fair weather bicycle commuter. I'm starting off riding to work every other day with the hopes of upping it to everyday and cutting out public transit altogether (at least for the summer). I bought a used Raleigh Olympian, which seems great.

Today, I had my first riding in the rain and almost getting hit by a car door experience. Surprisingly, I still enjoyed the ride home, which is promising. Also, all of this bicycle riding reminded me of one of my favorite Queen songs.

New Couch

We finally received our new couch and we love it!

The Easter bunny brought us a practical basket this year.

Ever since our new couch arrived, I've been on a serious redecorating kick. Yesterday, I made these mustache appliques for the living room.

Arizona

I went to Arizona for the first time last week. I liked Tucson the best. I especially enjoyed all of the brightly painted houses.
